H&D ARA. FURTHER CLARIFICATION: STATUS RULES. WINNING AT HIGHER STATUS

H&D ARA. RULE FURTHER CLARIFICATION: STATUS RULES. WINNING AT HIGHER STATUS

A further clarification. This ruling applies equally to Junior Senior Oarsman and to Junior Ladies rowing up at a higher status i.e  - if you win TWO SENIOR Races as a Junior Senior - or a Coastal Junior - Men or Ladies - you immediately become a Senior Oarsman/woman - and must compete at this status for the rest of the season.

Major changes at CARA.

At last weeks CARA Annual General Meeting - there was a significant change as Phil Challen stepped down as Association Secretary after more than thirty years in the role - a huge contribution to CARA, Coastal Rowing and our sport in general for which he deserves our recognition and thanks - and the Association has written to him accordingly.

His replacment is Shoreham's Sarah McCorry (was Povey) who will be known to many of you - and we wish her all the best in this challenging role and we are confident that the really good relationship that exists between our two Associations will continue and prosper under Sarah's guidance. She has been sent the Associations congratulations and assurances of support.

H&D ARA. Rule Clarification: Status Rules. Winning at Higher Status

H&D ARA. Rule Clarification: Status Rules. Winning at Higher Status.

Following an enquiry from Christchurch Rowing Club regarding the H&D ARA Status Rules it has become clear that one of these rules has been poorly worded and is open to misinterpretation and dose not convey the intent of the rule correctly.

It was always anticipated that following the major revision of the Rules in 2014 there would be one or two rules that would require clarification and amendment. The policy and procedure for dealing with such a situation was established last year – where the Association Executive Officers would consider the situation and consult with the Rules Sub Committee – and clarify the meaning and intent of the rule, which would then be applied for the rest of that season, subject to ratification at the Associations next AGM.

Clarification of Status Rule 2.3 has been sought – in that it could be interpreted as meaning that any Junior Oarsman who wins more than once at a higher status can continue to compete as a Junior Oarsman for the rest of the season.

The Association’s Executive Officers in consultation with the Rules Sub Committee have agreed that this is misleading and are satisfied that this was not the intent of the rule which was designed not to penalise an oarsman who has a single win at a higher status. Therefore – to clarify – the rule that will be applied for the rest of this season – but subject to ratification at the next AGM – is that – for Junior oarsman winning one Junior Senior or Senior race – this would count as a win at Junior status – but that after a 2nd win at Junior Senior status or above – the oarsman would immediately become a Junior Senior or Senior Oarsman and would have to race at Junior Senior or above for the rest of the season and would become a Senior Oarsman the following year.

I hope this clarifies the rule to everyone’s satisfaction for this season.

Steve Bull. Association Secretary.

Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Associations South Coast Rowing Handbook - 2016/2017.

Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Associations South Coast Rowing Handbook - 2016/2017.

The 2016/2017 Hants & Dorset ARA South Coast Rowing Handbook has now been published and distribution is underway.

The handbook contains a wealth of information about the Association and its affiliated Clubs and Regatta's and the South Coast Championships.

The Handbook's are being distributed to the Associations Executive Officers, Life Vice Presidents, Club Secretaries, Event Secretaries, and Full & Assistant Racing Officials. One copy is being sent to Executive Officers, Life & Vice Presidents and Full and Assistant Racing Officials - but not duplicated where an individual holds more than one of these positions. Each Event Secretary will also receive a copy regardless of duplication - and each Club Secretary, where the Club has paid its affiliation fee will receive at least three further copies for distribution within the Club - 1 may be posted - the others distributed at the first available opportunity. Please make sure Club copies are distributed appropriately - last year a number of Club Captains, Treasurers etc. did not seem to be aware of the handbooks existence!

It should noted that while every effort was made to ensure the information is as accurate as possible no responsibility can be taken for errors and omissions especially from those Clubs that failed to respond in time to requests for information or changes that have taken place since 20th March when the handbook went to print.

Copies of the Handbook should be received by post over the next week - with additional Club copies handed out at the first available opportunity - probably at Coalporters Regatta on Saturday, 14th May.

pdf version of the Handbook is available now to download from the H&D ARA Web site - at www.hdara.co.uk - go to the Downloads Tab - and scroll down to 2016 information.
