RYDE R. C. REGATTA. SATURDAY, 18th MAY. CONFIRMATION OF EVENTS THAT WILL BE STAGED & DRAFT COPY OF THE PROGRAM.

Ref. RYDE R. C. REGATTA. SATURDAY, 18th MAY. CONFIRMATION OF EVENTS THAT WILL BE STAGED & DRAFT COPY OF THE PROGRAM.

Please note that, due to the tide times, the Regatta is due to start at 9.30am and plan your travel accordingly.

IMPORTANT NOTICE Ref. RYDE REGATTA.

I refer you to the Ryde Regatta Club invitation letter which stated -

“Due to the problem with the tide the regatta committee has once again had to limit the entries in pairs and sculls to one entry per Club. Second and subsequent crew entries will be considered on the day in these events, should Clubs scratch any crews or if the entry is small (see reverse or attached for procedure). Additionally because of the strong likelihood of a larger than usual entries – the following statement, made by the Regatta, was accepted by the Hants & Dorset ARA AGM of 9th March, 2013 – Ryde R. C. statement - Ref. Ryde - You will be aware that the tidal conditions and sandbank at Ryde restrict the Regatta to around four and a half hours – about 22 events – and that we impose entry restrictions on small boat events as a result.  In the past few years this has allowed us to accommodate heats in just one event – if heats are required in more than one event this can probably only be accommodated by dropping some of the small boat events. Therefore, with the Associations approval, if Heats are required in more than one event we will drop some of the small boats events – starting, subject to entries received,  with the Double sculls and the Men’s and Ladies pairs events. The policy will be to advertise all the usual events and refund the entries where any event is not staged due to the need to allow heats in the fours events. Clubs will be advised – by E Mail - of any cancelled events within three days of the Regatta entries closing with written confirmation and refund of entry fees within a week – and a week before the regatta takes place. I hope this is acceptable to everyone.”

A large entry of 104 crews and scullers has been received – with the possibility of further entries in the restricted small boat events - but they are fairly evenly spread. With 11 Men’s Junior Fours entered – including provision for the Novice winner at Milford – this is the only event which will have heats. All event offered - except the Men’s Junior Senior Fours which only received one entry and the Ladies Senior Sculls and Double Sculls – which did not receive any entries –- will be staged .

·         So the following  EVENTS WILL  BE HELD -

CHAMPIONSHIP - MEN’S SENIOR FOURS, MENS JUNIOR FOURS, MENS NOVICE FOURS, LADIES SENIOR FOURS, LADIES JUNIOR FOURS, LADIES NOVICE FOURS, MASTERS “A”/40+ FOURS. LADIES MASTERS, MEN'S SENIOR PAIRS. MENS JUNIOR PAIRS. LADIES JUNIOR PAIRS, MENS SENIOR SCULLS. MENS JUNIOR SCULLS. MENS NOVICE SCULLS, LADIES JUNIOR SCULLS and LADIES NOVICE SCULLS.

In order to save some time I have chosen to combine the Ladies Senior Fours and the non-championship Masters B/50 events which only had two entries each.

The following events will NOT be staged –

CHAMPIONSHIP

MENS JUNIOR SENIOR FOURS – only one entry received - and LADIES SENIOR SCULLS – no entries received.

NON-CHAMPIONSHIP

Double Sculls – no entries received.

HDARA Filming. Message from AB Videography.

We have made the decision not to film and produce highlights of the 2019 HDARA season. We will put plans in place to possibly do it again in 2020 and will approach the HDARA for permission in the new year.

We will still be working individually with crews and competitors throughout the season for Solent Women's Sport, our streaming service, and will be speaking to clubs and crews beforehand.

However, we are aware that a few crews still want video footage for coaching, analysis or simply as a keepsake. Therefore, a pre-order booking service will be in effect for most of the season if anyone wants to have their race filmed. The link for Milford is now live.

Good luck with your racing this season and see you on the water!"

Bournemouth Regatta, 2019.

It is with deep regret and sadness that Bournemouth Rowing Club has taken the decision to cancel its regatta scheduled for Saturday 6th July, 2019 and they apologise sincerely for the inconvenience this will cause to Hants & Dorset ARA, and to affiliated clubs and crews. The decision has not been taken lightly, and they have assured us that they had every intention of making a success of our regatta this year. However, a number of issues, some of which were alluded to by David Soan at the recent Hants & Dorset ARA AGM on 30th March, have forced them into this unwanted position. These include the loss of committee members and even further diminishing membership. This lack of personnel, experience and the complications that go with hosting a regatta on Bournemouth seafront have meant that we are unable to safely run the event and have had no choice but to cancel.

Poole Rowing Club, have, as they did last year, offered to stage the Bournemouth Regatta on Bournemouth Rowing Clubs behalf at their Hamworthy Park location but unfortunately the Park is not available on the 6th July and they have checked the tides for all the other free dates and none of these are suitable and so they are not going to be able to run the Regatta from Poole this year.

As a result there would seem to be little choice but to abandon any attempt to stage a Bournemouth Regatta in 2019 - hopefully it will return in 2020.
