River Heads offering Coastal Events.

You will remember that one of the objectives of the Wessex SE Coast Regional Plan was to encourage participation in the autumn and winter heads on the River Thames.  Many clubs have already participated in the autumn head racing season in river boats but this is about opportunities to race in coastal boats in three head races between December and February.  The following Head Races are open to coastal crews:

Teddington Head Sat 3rd December - entries to Diane Graham dianehwr@hotmail.co.uk

Weybridge Head Sat 21st January – entries through BROE but I am working of that.

Burway Head Sat 25th February – enties to Burway Captain mailto:captain@burwayrowingclub.co.uk

Please note that non BROE entries do not require BR membership!

Southsea already have the above events on their calendar and we would very much like some competition from other coastal clubs/crews.  I am very happy to let you know the status of crews we are likely to be entering in these races to help ensure we have good completion

In addition to the above may I remind you of the following events already posted on the Hants and Dorset web site:

Head of Stour Sun 12th March

Southampton 4+Head Sat 1st April

Event Sponsorship, 2017 South Coast Championship Regatta.

Event Sponsorship, 2017 South Coast Championship Regatta.

In 2007 and 2011 the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association hosted what are generally regarded as the fairest and most successful South Coast Rowing Championship Regatta’s at the 2012 Olympic venue of Dorney Lake near Eton. In 2017 it is once again the Associations responsibility to host the event and the decision has been taken to return to Dorney Lake for a 3rd time – as it provides such a fair course and conditions.

It is estimated that the Regatta will cost around £20,000 to stage and while much of the funding is in place through the South Coast Levy imposed on Regatta entry fees we do hope to raise additional funding through event sponsorship, program advertising and trade stands as we have in the past.

In 2007, 2011 and 2014 a number of the Associations affiliated clubs and individuals supported the Championships by sponsoring an event and we are hoping that some of you will be prepared to do so again in 2017. We are hoping that those interested would be willing to make a donation of £100 to sponsor one of the events at the regatta.

If you or your Club are able to support us please contact me at the reply to address above and thank you for your consideration – and if you know of anyone else who might be interested in supporting the event or a company who might be interested in our event sponsorship, program advertising or retail stand opportunities please let us know.
