Hants & Dorset ARA Water Safety Meeting. Saturday, 26th February 2022 at 11.00am. SOUTHAMPTON ROWING CLUB.

Hants & Dorset ARA Water Safety Meeting.

Hants & Dorset ARA Club and Event Safety Advisors and/or Club and Event Secretaries or their representatives are invited to attend a meeting of the Hants & Dorset ARA Water Safety Committee to be held at SOUTHAMPTON ROWING CLUB, Hazel Road, Woolston, Southampton. SO19 7GA on Saturday, 26th February 2022 at 11.00am – unless any further Covid-19 restrictions are imposed.

Representatives of Non-Hants & Dorset ARA affiliated Wessex West Region Clubs are also invited and are welcome to attend – but should be aware that much of the content of the meeting relates specifically to Hants & Dorset ARA Clubs.

AGENDA.

1) Apologies

2) Minutes of the last meeting. Note: copy attached and previously circulated – and a copy can be downloaded from the Hants & Dorset ARA Web site at – www.hdara.co.uk. See downloads section- meetings.

3) RRSA’s Report (Report to H&D Autumn Delegates Meeting/Wessex Region AGM) [See attached]

4) To receive a report on the British Rowing National Water Safety Committee Meetings.

5)  BR Row Safe.

6)  BR Club Safety Audits.

7) On-Line Incident Reporting – analysis of 13th year – and stats from BR.

8) Safety incidents Reported by H&D (& Wessex) Clubs in 2021 and at 2021 Hants & Dorset Events.

9) Boat Inspections & Regatta/Event Audits.

10) To review Association Safety equipment including status after the 2021 season (Gary Joyce) including the Association owned defibrillator.

11) Public Liability Insurance at Events.

12) Format of the Hants & Dorset Water Safety Committee.

13) Venue for 2023 Meeting.

14) Any other business.

We would ask any of you attending this meeting to complete a Lateral Flow Test before arrival at the Southampton Club and if this is positive or if you have any Covid-19 symptoms or feel unwell not to attend. In addition we would ask you all to sign in on a register for NHS Track and Trace purposes, and to use the hand sanitizer that is available at the Clubhouse.

Long time member of BTC rowing club Mike Wardell.

Long time member of BTC rowing club Mike Wardell sadly passed away on 4th January 2022 after a short illness

Will be sadly missed by all Family and Friends

The funeral Service will be held on Monday 24th January at 10am
at the Wessex Vale Crematorium, Bubb Lane, West End, SO30 2HL
Followed by reception at the Ageas Bowl from 11.15

All relatives and Friends are welcome to attend. Family flowers only please, but donations, if so desired, can be made to Asthma Research  c/o Co-operative Funeral Directors hedge-end@coop.co.uk

H&D Championship Presentation Dinner. Saturday, 13th November, 2021. Novotel, Southampton.

The annual H&D Championship Presentation Dinner will take place on Saturday 13th November at the Novotel, Southampton. 
There will be a 3 course meal with tea/coffee/mints, a free photo booth, raffle and DJ. The evening starts at 7pm with dinner being served at 7.30pm prompt. Tickets are £29.50 per person.
All ticket bookings should be organised through your club. If each club could provide a spreadsheet with the names of the individuals attending and their menu choices and send over to Paula Williams Paulamwilliams21@gmail.com no later than the 31st October, it would be much appreciated. Please can all payment for tickets be also sent to Paula and bank details are on the poster.
We look forward to welcoming all of our championship winners and their club members for the first dinner together since 2019.

Level 2 BR coaching course running in January at Southampton ARC

There is a level 2 BR coaching course running in January at Southampton ARC - 

Course Provider: NGB/British Rowing.

Course Location: Southampton ARC, Hazel Road, Woolston, Hampsire, SO19 7GA

Start Date: Saturday, 15th January 2022

Start Time: 09:00

Booking Deadline: Thursday, 23rd December 2021

Event Detail:

When: 15-16 & 29-30 Jan 2022 0900-1700 

Where: Southampton ARC, Hazel Road, Woolston, Hampshire, SO19 7GA

What you'll learn: The British Rowing Club Coach (Sliding Seat) course is a recognised UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rowing and is the first award for coaching individuals on the water. It is aimed at beginner coaches, and is applicable to coaches working with all groups, from novices to competent rowers. The award focuses on developing three coaching behaviours:

  • Having a concern for standards
  • Being a rower-focussed coach
  • Looking to develop continually as a coach.

Who can attend? Anyone over 16 years of age. 

If you are 16 or 17, you will need to be 16 at the time of booking, a parent or guardian will also need to complete a consent form for you, this will be sent to you at the time of booking, in the booking confirmation email. It needs to be completed before you will be able to attend the course. Once you complete the course, you will receive an acknowledgment of attendance, and will be certificated fully after your 18th birthday. 

You will also need to have completed some additional workshops before signing up to a Level 2 course. The prerequisites for this qualification are:

  • Capsize and Recovery Training  
  • Safety Basics Online Module  
  • Cold Water & Hypothermia Online Module
