Further to the sad news of the passing of Ted Dhergold please see below for a statement from BTC Rowing Club.
"It is with great sadness B.T.C. has to report the passing of our Life Member and Club President, Edward “Ted” Shergold on Saturday, January 7th.
Ted joined B.T.C. around 1945, at the end of the war before a brief spell at the newly founded Southampton A.R.C where he won the A.R.A British Championship Desborough Eights race in the early 1950’s. Rowing as a Senior oarsman he just missed out on a championship in 1959.
Ted was also extremely involved with the Hants & Dorset ARA he was a race official and a Life Vice President of the association. In 1986 & 1987 was chosen to be the Association President (a role which can only be held for two years) where he managed the set-up of numerous Hants & Dorset regatta and South Coast courses. In the 1970’s Ted was voted into the South Coast Council, where he was influential in many South Coast Championships. His dedication to the rowing community was recognised in 2010 when he was awarded the Daily Echo award for service to the Hants & Dorset, in 2006 where he was awarded Life Membership for services to the South Coast Council and A South Coast Lifetime Achievement Award In 2019.
Everyone at B.T.C. IS very thankful and proud of all that Ted has done behind scenes, not just for our club but for the wider rowing community, the Hants & Dorset and the South Coast Championships. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."
