Virtual Round Brownsea Race.

All Hants and Dorset Clubs.
Virtual Round Brownsea Race

Poole RC are wishing to revive the Round Brownsea Island race, but in line with
these current times with a little twist – a virtual one from the comfort of your own
home.
In conjunction with some clever people at Runcorn RC we are able to offer an ‘App’
which entrants can download and connect to their ergo and allows us to link people
up from the same club to form crews and race against crews from other clubs. We
can form crews of 2, 3 or 4 people in various age/gender classes if we have enough.
We will split the event up into divisions so that a family can use the same ergo in
different divisions.
The hope is to run the event in March and also to have footage of the course around
the island so that you can watch your progress around the island as you ergo.
On our couple of test events we have found that the key is the technology – the app
only runs on a pc or laptop, it does not run on an ipad or iphone. So you need an
ergo, a pc or laptop and a printer type cable to hard wire the two together. Plus a
decent wifi/internet connection so a remote gym or garage may not be perfect.
This is a pre invite to gauge the level of interest from clubs, we hope this is a great
way to start getting our competitive juices going and bringing the association back
together after such a long time apart – we are missing you all!
So could you push out to your members let me have an idea of the level of
interest/ability to meet the technology requirements from your club by Friday 26 th
February on pjacobs757@aol.com
Many thanks
Pete Jacobs, Club captain

Message from Adam Ratcliffe, Vice Captain of BTC ref. Boats for Sale.

Hi All,

Hope everyone is keeping well and looking forward to returning to normal. I appreciate that times are hard and also with the restrictions in place not many transactions can happen however I would like to make everyone aware of a unique opportunity of several Rowing Boats B.T.C has for sell and in the near future could be available to your rowing club once things are better.

Possibly built early 90s. Good boat for the price with no essential work required has had many good rows and wins in its time. ALSO comes with a set of wooden handle concept2 carbon sweep blades plus the sets of quad & sweep riggers. £1100 ONO

1x River Coxed Quad - Average weight 65kg - “Rowing Centre Ltd.” (Swift Racing). Used primarily to coach under 16s owned since brand new 2005 White Lightning. No longer have any use for boat. A quad set of macon concept2 blades are also included in the price. Will need new footplates, shoes and seats however lots of parts around @ B.T.C that can be used & many parts still with the boat. £500 ONO

1x Coastal Pair - “Alan Noice” - late 80s built originally as Saxon of Christchurch Rowing Club. No longer have use for the boat. Needs minor repairs and revarnishing (personal choice) however the boat is fully usable. (Available November 2021) £700

John and Brent Hartland.

Some news - some good - some bad - from Southampton Rowing Club's regarding their long standing members John and Brent Hartland.

Brent had been very ill but is now doing very well. He's walking and managed steps. He's eating and drinking and now waiting to be transferred to Rehab which will be Gosport,  when there is a bed. So that's the good news.

Now for the bad - John Hartland passed away on the 20th January. John was a member of SARC in the 50's and helped John Bailey with the "Evolution" when John was developing it as a centre seat boat. He had been seriously ill with dementia for a number of years.
